I came in having high hopes for Ruchi. After being treated to some great Indian food in Seattle (courtesy of A Taste of India), I was excited to hear that Ruchi was always popping up as one of KC's favorite Indian restaurants and felt it was time I put my palate at their doorstep. I grabbed their lunch buffet but feel I should sample an evening meal for a better review here. I don't know about the rest of you, but I like my fine Indian cuisine restaurant to be intimate. Somehow Indian food and several cups of hot chai puts me in a mood of peaceful serenity. Well those feelings weren't coming up at all at Ruchi. I literally felt I was eating at a Golden Ox or something. With the layout and booths (freaking booths!), I kept wondering if I was going to get a big tray to put all my food on and an option for a salad bar. The food was ok but it was buffet. Don't make the mistake of thinking food on a buffet is stellar no matter the cuisine. I think the only place buffets seem to reign supreme is Vegas. Service was ok but nothing like I've experienced before at other Indian places. In the past, they have represented my measuring stick for service. Ruchi was just bland all around but I should go back for an evening and see if it changes my mind.

Do words like tandori and vindaloo make your mouth water? If so, nobody in town makes better Indian food than Ruchi. Their delicious chicken tandori comes to the table sizzling, and the chicken tikka masala is always the first dish to be emptied. Once Udipi closed, Ruchi became my favorite for vegetarian Indian too, with dishes like Potato Sabji I haven't found anywhere else. The option of ordering your entrée thali or a la carte confused me at first, but once I'd tried the slightly more expensive thali, I decided the additional soups and chutneys didn't significantly enhance my dining experience. A few years ago, Ruchi opened a second location in Lawrence. But despite their affiliation, the service and quality were miles apart. The Lawrence location is long gone, and so is the chance that its bad mojo will rub off on the original.

Wow after reading most of the other reviews I'm wondering if we are indeed speaking of the same Ruchi... Chicken Tikka Masala- Awesome!! If you like it spicy... let em know. If you want real spice... opt for the Chicken 65 Naan... Go garlic! Enough said. I agree the ambience leaves much to be desired but hey... I've eaten in a dirt floor Indian Restaurant in Goa and I've been to the settlements in Vancouver so, what are we really here for? The food... My first buffet experience was a failure but, they recently redeemed themselves this past Sunday afternoon. So if you're new to the cuisine. Do the buffet and "try" it all! It may look strange but, as Emeril would say BAM! Man the flavor. ENJOY!

Korma Sutra is 10 times better. The butter chicken was mostly sauce. Nan was hard as a rock and yogurt cucumber sauce was bland. Buffet items at lunch are rarely fresh or full after 1:00. Wish I would have driven the extra 1/2 mile to Korma Sutra.

This is one of the top 3 Indian restaurants in this area. They have the standard $7.50 lunch buffet that can be really good and diverse but on occasion, bland. The manager told me their dishes were "simpler" during the day to accommodate the American palette and to come back for dinner. I did and it was quite good. A friend has worked with their managers and cooks and coordinated with our friend's favorite restaurant in VA to develop a completely vegan menu. It is a completely different menu and you must ask specifically for it (and perhaps insist that they have one). There are perhaps 50 offerings on the menu and they are all vegan. Note on less positive reviews: If you travel, or are from a larger city, you know that larger cities mean larger ethnic populations that can support more diverse tastes. Temper the couple of less positive reviews with their background. If you are from a big city with wonderful Indian food - this may be different. If you are from KC, this is some of the best available.

At war with Korma Sutra for South KC supremacy. Ruchi is one of those restaurants you have to have on your regular restaurant schedule. As I have mentioned in other reviews, I work with dozens upon dozens of Indian folks. This is by far, Indian people's favorite restaurant. Naan is decent, Mango Lassi is not watered down and flavorful and the buffet has a huge variety of authentic items. This definitely a recommended place, however I will sometimes pick Korma Sutra depending on how pressed for time I am at lunch.

I went with my brother to lunch while visiting the KC area and he took me here where many of his Indian friends like to eat. It was very good! They had a huge selection for the buffet, with many types of meat and vegetable curries, including a cabbage curry and goat!!! They had a type of bread that I haven't had since living in Malawi and eating Indian at Meena's! Very good place. Wide variety, good flavorful food. I'll be going back here next time I come for a visit!

My husband and I have been dining at Ruchi's for years. I was introduced to it by a fellow-classmate of mine (originally from India) who told me that for him it was the closest thing to home. We highly recommend the butter chicken and the samosas. My husband loves the lamb dishes as well. We enjoy the waiting staff (most of them speak Spanish too!) and have found the service to be excellent. The weekend buffet is filled with tasty food and the restaurant is packed so get there early. Prices are fair.

This was the first place a friend from Bangladesh took me to experience Indian food a few years ago. I travel and seek out Indian wherever I go now and some others beat them in some areas, but will say Ruchi's CHICKEN 65 is the best I've had. I like their Korma dishes as well and appreciate it when they bring the goat to the buffet, in whatever form - ALWAYS good. I always look forward to coming back to KS and hitting the Ruchi for the buffet and the gulab jamun to finish it all off.

The service is good, and they serve (apparently) genuine Indian food, as opposed to "Americanized" Indian food. The buffet on weekends is excellent. Lots of choices. The service is good. This might be my favorite Indian place in KC.

went on a saturday evening with my wife and year old daughter. restaurant was busy but not crowded. service was attentive but not the most helpful. my wife and I asked for description of the items that came with the thali option when ordering the chicken tikka. When the plate arrived we asked and the waiter again what were the thali specifics and he says oh yes wait it is good. A few minutes later another waiter comes over and says the name of each item (which we knew) rice and milk pudding, dal, raita, and two vegetables. We asked again to described the items in each dish and the waiter says it is good and walks away. The naan order was nothing to brag about being four small pieces (about the size of a pita cut into quarters). The combo biryani (shrimp, lamb, chicken) was wonderfully aromatic with ginger, cardamon, and other curry spices. The flavor was spicy hot which was nice but again nothing to write home about. My wife enjoyed her chicken tikka but she has had better at masala's on metcalf, which also had way bettter naan and peshawari naan. Overall we will not be going back to Ruchi as there are better indian restaurants in the area. More like a 2.5 star as they didnt quite do anything to warrant a two star, they are just average.

I might not be the most sophisticated fan of Indian food, but I always look forward to a visit to Ruchi's. I like to hit the buffet so I can pick and choose, and some days it's difficult to get in everything I want to taste. Chicken 65 is a spicy standout and the vegetable Koorma is a favorite. If the offerings are not spicy enough, a bit of the insanely hot carrot pickle should ramp things up. Getting to the buffet early is a good idea since by noon the place will be packed with Indian natives, which to me speaks well for the quality and authenticity of the food.

Buffet is worth the money. Service is not the best. They tend to overprice most of the dishes. With the limited options for Indian food in the KC Metro area, Ruchi is probably the best in town for food.

okay just a second note- evidentally the paneer naan was giving my butter chicken its flavor i reheated the next day for lunch and went.. well THIS isnt how i remember this dish. so yea. i'll take back what i said. the naan was good. order the naan. other than that.. i'm going elsewhere. cough! Paradise india! A-ok. after Steve T;s review and since this is just around the corner i decided to not go to my normal Paradise India weekend dinner and give Ruchi a try. i'll say what i liked about it first, i liked the location since it was so close although smelling the Burger king fumes made me relive the food poisoning i got from them and throwing up that charcoal flavor for days- its got great parking- its a clean pretty restaurant. the staff was polite. i liked the actual entree of butter chicken it was VERY good and it was mild so that made me happy. i didnt get the extra full meal with the soups and etc since i wasnt sure about the place i didnt want to get into too much money especially when i'm just learning about the food, i ordered naan appetizer potato pakoras since i knew nothing next to the paradise india chicken samosas would do- and entree with a mango lassi - i also got handed the check without being asked if i wanted dessert so i didnt try it there. big mistake cause i would have ordered it. the potato pakoras were tasty. although the red sauce served with them really was HOT it melted the inside of my mouth for a few minutes and my sinuses are completely clear- the white sauce mixed with the tamarind was good dipping. the paneer nan wasnt what i expected it to be- it wasnt cheese it had a paste and herbs in it but it was good and all hot and fresh. what i didnt like- no onion chutney for the appetizers- the mango lassi was warm and even after i put ice in it= just not as good as the other two places i've had them, maybe it was just mine because the girl sitting next to me raved about hers - but honestly my problem was- the rice. i've never enountered rice with corn lima beans peas and carrots in it. three of my least liked vegetables ever! i dont even order chinese fried rice often because of the peas and carrots. i prefer steamed rice and the indian food places normally i thought it was a basmati rice sometimes with saffron to not take away from the entree. i tried some and i could taste the lima beans. yik. so i ate my tasty butter chicken and dipped the spiced naan in it with no rice. that was very good. i also took home leftovers and will be making plain rice tomorrow to go with it. all that was 26 bucks. and from the other reviews, i'm feeling just fine tummy wise. if you like those veggies in your rice go for it.. for me well- all in all i really preferred Paradise India every course was excellent and a all round tastier meal with mango lassi and the onion chutney i like-not to mention thier chicken samosas were amazing and two incredible desserts for just a few dollars more. so i think unless i REALLY dont feel like driving and i have to make my own rice. i'll go out of my way and pass on Ruchi.

SO OVER RATED ....do not think I will be returning any time soon ! have been there twice now, and for starters the manager who has been there when Ive picked up our take out is very very rude ! also it is very small portions for the prices ...I mean I paid $55 for 2 appetizers and 2 ala carte entrees that were VERY skimp on the chicken and not to mention, the chicken that was in it was tough instead of tender !! the chicken tandoori was a JOKE too ....cheap chicken, dry with no meat on them !!! my sons curry was chicken jalfrezi , and again was almost all FROZEN ( not even fresh ) veggies instead of what should of been lots of chicken chunks! then again, I lived in the UK and know what Indian food is supposed to be about but still, Im so annoyed , going elsewhere next time ......

It is sad....i have been coming to Ruchis or 10-11 years since coming to KC. I loved it for the South Indian specialties, like dosas, idliis, sambar, etc. i grew to like a lot of their meat dishes, too, esp. at buffett time. You won't find an ultra warm reception here. I don't know why so many people have called the race card. It does not matter....the staff have never been warm and cozy to anyone. Now once, i did report a redneck in there who was picking on the bussers for speaking Spanish...but I was the one speaking to them...so he was yelling at me too....another story. (i am not latin, btw, or really ethnic) Ok...so buffett had long ago beome hit or miss. The chicken tandoori is either a hit, or dry and chewy. They rapidly run out of things and they don't get replaced quickly....main staples to a meal, such as naan, and rice. REALLY? The endless chai & mango juice are great too, but not when empty. The chai, btw, is bland & tastes like it was made with instant tea, in my opinion...but it is a "pass"..... Then, recently, we decided to do dinner there for a change...to try things not on the buffett choices, like lamb. It was the middle of the week. My DH wanted lamb saag. They were out of lamb. ( Told us 10 min after ordering)... So he settled or veggie korma...always on the lunch buffett. I ordered a chicken dish and chai...the Latin waiter had no idea what chai was and had to go ask. ENVIRONS: The old guy behind the counter was watching indian tv which was very distracting for dinnertime. The co -owner ??? Is the stout moustached fellow always on the phone....he was pacing around as usual...OUTside. The chicken dish arrived and i could smell that it was "off". I took a bite to make sure it wasn't a play of spices or the asafoetida used commonly in Indian cooking. I had eaten many chicken dishes at Ruchi's and none had ever tasted like this! The chicken was rotten! I felt sick to my stomach as the couple behind my dh got their chicken tandoori, and after a few minutes hearing them say...."does it taste strange?" I told a waiter...who disappeared and never returned. Another came by and ******dipped his finger in my food******!!!!!...and said , " i think you are right." The co-owner/manager moustached fellow-always-on-the-phone ( not taking orders, btw) rapidly came in and just as rapidly departed...still on the phone. Good grief....' nuff said. I'll be eating somewhere else from now on!

I was in the mood for Indian food recently so my husband and I gave this place a try. We met for a midweek lunch date and had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Had it been much longer we might have walked away, but I'm so glad we didn't. As I suspected, a place this busy must be busy for a reason! I came with the intent to order off the menu, there are several Indian dishes that I really like, but as soon as I saw that the buffet was well stocked, AND included Mango Lassi as well as Chai, well... the value was just overwhelming. I had small samples of absolutely everything and this place is now secured as my go-to Indian place. The flavors were just as they should be, not too faint, or too strong. (Too strong in the sense that when you get back to the office no one has any doubt what you had for lunch...though I enjoy eating it, I don't like to leave smelling like curry.) Luckily that was not the case here. Some highlights for me: the butter chicken was very rich, none of the meat dishes suffered from "dry meat" bathed in sauce problems, I liked the variety of rice available. There was even more than one kind of naan bread! There were also several appetizers! And yes there was even dessert... though I thought it was a crime there was no Gulab Jamun. WHAT?? In it's place I made a new discovery: halva. It's a little bit on the pasty side, but with a little bit of the mango frozen yogurt, it was pretty tasty. My husband settled in one specific dish, I believe they call it "chicken 89?" It was small chunks of boneless chicken coated in an intensely red spice mix. Along with rice, naan and raita, my husband was immensely satisfied. Could have made 5 stars, but this place still has a little room left for improvement. The decor is a little chintzy, and the service could be a little better. Also, be warned, if you go back for lunch buffet on the weekends, it is several dollars more!

I was here Sunday for the buffet. While I'm not a fan of a buffet in general, I think it's a great way to explore a cuisine like Indian. It's easy to try a little bit of everything. The restaurant was very busy, even at 1:30, full of families. Our waiter brought water quickly after we were seated but as this was my first time in on Sunday, I had to ask if there was a menu (no) of if it was just buffet (yes, on Sundays). My sister had read a few of the Yelp reviews and mentioned that the food on Sunday was generally spicier than normal, I didn't find anything that was excessively spicy. There were lots of choices for vegetarians (I enjoyed the vegetarian masala, the one with the chick peas) and carnivores alike (several chicken dishes and one with goat). I found the butter chicken particularly tasty. And we were both big fans of that coconut rice. There was plenty of variety, the staff was fast and friendly, and the buffet was kept very clean and well stocked with freshly prepared items. Ruchi is a great place to explore Indian cuisine, especially on Sunday!

Another great night at Ruchi. I just wanted to make a note that I used one of my "Enjoy the City" coupons here during a recent visit and the owner came by to tell me that they had meant for it to read "free lunch with purchase of another" not "free dinner." He angrily ripped it up, cursed the guy selling the book, and then gave me a $10 off coupon. Clearly he wasn't happy, but he still wanted to honor the discount somehow. As usual I had a great meal. I encourage people to order the "thali" version of whatever entree they want. It will come with "all the fixins" which is the best way to enjoy your meal.

Not being a huge fan of buffets, I do understand that if you are going to eat anything from a buffet, Indian food is usually a good bet for this preparation method (as far as the cooking process goes, most of the food is fine, even better as it sits for a while). Ruchi is a good Indian buffet. The food is good, hot and plentyful. I have had issues with Ruchi in the past mostly for consistency. I read a few other reviews and know about the rude guy that works there too (he seems very distracted most of the time), also, the food, at times, seems a bit greasy. This visit was good. Food was great and our giant pitcher of water didn't run out. As we left, I glanced up above the bar and noticed a wire strung with 5 or 6 jalepeno peppers and a lemon. My friend asked the man at the register what it was and he said, "It's nothing wierd, we just like it". We laughed a lot about that.

Horrible Horrible Horrible place. The food in this restaurant is not even worth to touch your tongue. Their version of Indian food is to sprinkle spices on top of food which lefts it uncooked and highly unhealthy for your body. We went there and horrible service too. In order to make up in the end, manager started giving us discounts and tried to make it up,but you can't just find a substitute for horrible Indian food. I can cook way better than their chef.

I feel really bad writing this review. I have enjoyed the food from Ruchi's kitchen many a times. However, my last visit was very bad. We ordered chicken biryani and 2 thalis for 3 people. So when I tasted the biryani, it seemed like there was absolutely no salt. I made the other two people with me taste it only to confirm. We called the restaurant manager and said we would like to return it. The manager just looked at our table and without trying to know what was the reason , just passed a nasty comment. He said and I quote "Looks like you have more food on the table and want to return it." He obviously meant i was trying to save money. I had not even asked him to not charge us for the biryani. When I had asked him to take it back, he should have asked why I did not like it. Instead he chose to be rude. I called him back and asked him to taste the food before he would comment. I was more than willing to pay for the food. But the way he spoke even without tasting and confirming if what I said was right or wrong, was not justified. That's just POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. This only shows that the staff was not open for constructive feedback. After this whole drama I left all the food on the table and paid the bill and left. The manager had the least repentance. As soon as we stepped out of the restaurant, another manager came and apologized for 15 mins and spoke well. He requested us to forget this incident and visit them again. I would never ever step back into that restaurant. The food was good 8 out of 10 times that i visited. But the way I was treated just showed how much importance was given to customer satisfaction. Sorry Guys... I never asked for any free food. I paid for every bit and more. If you like ill treating customers because you have plenty of them... then suit yourself.

I've been eating here for a number of years. Finally, when they took the tiki masala off the lunch buffet I've finally given up. I was told to call to find out if they would have chicken tiki masala but when I've called I've been told to call back at 11:30 for a buffet that opens at 11? They've never been very friendly to me, whether it's gender or culture or whatever but the food was good enough for a while to keep me coming back plus convenience in terms of location. Wish them the best but the table service, customer service and more need work. Just a tiny bit of friendliness would go a long way.

Came for lunch and found hair in one of the curry dishes and complained to the owner. He shrugged and with a no look attempt to apologize with no sincerity. Came back again for dinner and ordered the Briyani which was tasteless and the vindaloo which was pretty much recycled from the buffet. Very disappointing and coupled with the owners attitude which did not care if they lose a patron or two. There are better Indian restaurants nearby.

ugh! I guess I'm still looking for a consistently good Indian restaurant here in KC. after having a horrible craving for the Ruchi special Biriyani, we made a special trip here on New Year's Day for dinner. we weren't the only people with the idea as it was much busier than we were expecting. it took a while for anyone to even come over to the table. we ordered the Biriyani and a vegetable dish, along with two bowls of Sambar (which was also really good the last time we were here). it took a while for them to bring the papadam to the table. instead of the three curries we were expecting, they brought a sauce claiming they didn't have the curries on Sunday. the sambar, which arrived seemed a little thinned out without many vegetables in it. the Biriyani was also missing some of the vegetables that came in it the last time we ordered it and the chicken was cooked a bit differently. the vegetable dish was good, but didn't compare to the other one we had. overall, the food was okay, but not nearly as amazing as I remember.

Hi all, I am from India and recently arrived in U.S. I felt very nostalgic for many days since i left my country as i missed my people back in my country and ALSO THE FOOD. After coming to Kansas, I was really delighted having dinnerin this restaurant called RUCHI. The food here is too good and is a real treat for the taste buds. I would like to thank the staff and management for providing such delicious food. As soon as i entered the restaurant, the manager humbly wished me and showed me the way to my seating. And then i was served water and PAPAD which was too good to start a dinner like that. I have ordered appetizers initially and the staff was quick enough not to keep me waiting for long time. They served quick. Appetizers were too good and they caught my first and best impression of their food. Then i ordered Chicken biryani and after eating that, i felt that i was in Hyderabad itself. It was a very good stuff and i enjoyed the food very much. Specially the butter chicken curry with nan and the kadai chiken were too good to taste. I would like to end this review by recommending this restaurant to you people. Don't miss the food here whenever you pass through this part of the city!!! Thank you :)

This is by far the best "Buffet" style indian place I've been too. They keep upping their price and slightly changing their recipes which pisses me off but I always go back. I guess that has something to do with the cycle of life or something. Since it's a buffet they leave a pitcher of water at your table and you serve yourself completely. I don't have 4 arms to eat and pour my own drink but then again I don't have to add that additional tip on top of the already high price. Their creamy butter chicken...well I have a comparison I'd like to make about the goddess Shakti but my wife wouldn't let me. I also can't get enough of their curried spicy catfish and I don't even like catfish!

Anyone giving this establishment less than 5 stars has zero knowledge of India cuisine. I had dinner here with a business associate on Monday Evening, 7/9. We started with a Marsala Dosa which was flawless. I then proceeded to have one of the best Saag Paneer dishes ever served. I live in Los Angeles and find it hard to believe that such amazing food exists in Overland Park, Kansas. The service was exceptional as well. Hope I get to return to Kansas soon. Am hungry for more of their great food!

I craved south Indian food and went here because of their strong southern and indo/chinese menu. We went on a week night dinner. The buffet seemed to still have food on it, despite being shrouded by a room dividing screen. We ordered gobi manchurian w sauce, mysore dosa combo (came with 2 idli), and onion rava dosa. Our gobi had a much thicker and grainier coating than I'm used to, and the sauce was gloppy and cornstarchy. I'm used to gobi manchurian that is both the best bar snack ever and one that transports me to the suburban NJ chinese restaurants of my youth, in a magical Proustian way. This one transported me to a sad, greasy, gloppy chinese buffet. We could barely make a dent in it despite being very hungry. Perhaps ordering it dry would have been slightly wiser. Our Onion Rava Dosa was lacy and crisp. It was the least dreadful part of our meal here. We were advised to try it with the "coconut chutney" that were served with the papadums. This chutney had no discernable coconut flavor to it, despite having the appropriate texture and speckle from mustard seeds. The only flavor that I could taste was peanut. Our Mysore Masala Dosa was limp with grease. The filling was greasy and sad, we did not eat it. The idli were edible. Our wait staff were perfectly adequate. I strongly do not recommend this restaurant.

This has been my "go to" Indian restaurant for years. The food is consistently good and is truly cooked to order to your specifications and spice preference. The buffet is the largest I have seen and offers a lot of variety. They also change their buffet offerings so it's always a different experience. Mango lasi and chai tea are offered for free as part of the buffet along with desserts that are not normally offered and soft serve ice cream.

You know... these places are just crazy. Mutton/goat curry with bones everywhere sounds like a liability law event waiting to happen. But there it was in the buffet. I lowered the power setting on my jaw muscles and chewed away gently and happily. Tasty stuff.... that marrow is the secret! They had a green bean and a chickpea and a mushroom dish. You think, since I wax philosophical on meats, that I didn't hit those? Think again... matter of fact... think twice! All were delicious. There was some kind of black almond looking seasoning seed in the chickpeas that I could not get the dude up front to ID for me. Interesting and complex spices are the hallmark of Indian cuisine in my opinion. There were plenty of cardamom seeds, too... and I just eat those like candy. I am going to smell like a spice shop working out tonight! ; ) Really a nice little place with good food. Several ethnically identical people were dining there [all Indian]. This is always a good sign. If you can't please the home crowd....

The buffet is always busy, but the food is very fresh & empty pans are replaced promptly. This place seems to mostly cater to the lunch crowd around the tech corridor near College & Metcalf -- so they have a vested interest in authenticity, anyhow. Nice variety on the buffet table, which includes chai, which makes me very happy :-)

Stopped in for lunch today and enjoyed the buffet. Good things on it included the chili fish, chicken koorma and chicken biryani, not to mention the potato samosas. There were several breads, including plain and coconut naan, and idli. The price of the buffet includes mango lassi and masala chai. The mango cake available for dessert was also very tasty! Service was good and friendly -- used plates got removed promptly. I haven't been to Ruchi for dinner (a la carte) but I'm certainly inspired to check it out based on the lunch time buffet.

I've had good food here, but the last time we went the service was so bad that I don't anticipate going back. We arrive at 8:20 on a Friday night and the host immediately made it clear the kitchen was closing at 9:00 and the restaurant would close at 10:00. I think the staff wanted to close early because they were visible upset when we said it was okay and asked to be seated. They told us we were too late and they would only serve us butter chicken or chicken tikka, which was fine. They didn't bring any rice with dinner and were really rude when we asked for it. Overall, it was a pretty bad experience.

This is not my first taste of Indian food, but it's close. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous on the inside. We came here for our anniversary and it was totally romantic and unexpected. The dark wood and the beautiful carved wood screens made it that more sultry and divine. I tried the infamous mango lassi and let me tell you it did not disappoint. I've never had it before and it was delicious. It's basically a mango shake with coconut milk and something else in it, but it's wonderful and refreshing. I drank it all before the meal came out and then I was full! We ordered safe options, as we are not too familiar with Indian cuisine. I ordered the butter chicken and my fiance ordered the chicken tikka masala. Mine was wonderfully rich and decadent, but it wasn't as spicy as I'd liked. They ask you to indicate the level of spice when you order, and I chose medium. I really did not get the heat that I expected and it was actually a bit mild for my taste. Maybe next time I'll go with the HOT and see how I like it. The nan was fresh and warm and oh god it was too good. I could eat just nan and sauce (cucumber mint sauce was my favorite) as my meal and be happy. One thing left to be desired here is the relatively slow service. It seemed like a busy evening with one main server and a helper that took away dirty dishes and brought out the food. It took a while for nearly everything from the time we sat down. I don't mind it at all, but when drinks go empty and you're just sitting there, it gets on my nerves. However, the slow service was utterly forgotten once the food came and I stuffed myself to the point of discomfort!

This is my ALL time favorite Indian restaurant in America. You heard my right peps A-m-e-r-i-c-a. I travel a lot for work and always make a game of going to the best rated Indian restaurant in the city I am in. No where has ever compared to Ruchi. I will quality this by also saying that there is 1 dish that I try everywhere that is mostly what I am making my judgement on -the Malai Kofta. I am a vegetarian and this is the most delish indian veg dish I think a person can get. It is these delicious falafel like balls in this insainly creamy , delicious, nutty, sauce that would bring Chuck Norris to tears. Give me some garlic naan and I suddenly feel baby Jesus' arms around me- wait! He is even wearing a tuxedo t-shirt!!! Service is always fast although I will agree with others never overly friendly. The owners are down right scary and I usually grab my to go order and avoid eye contact just incase meeting eyes turns me into stone. Seriously people. The place is legit. My meat eater friends sware by the Lamb vindaloo and Chicken tikka masala. This is what Indian dreams are made of. Spicy , heaven eaten on naan.

I came here on a Tuesday night with a friend. We were sat quickly, I love this place but their service is so slow. They are always friendly though. I have ate here in the past, had a great dish and also experienced the slow service. Even though the service is normally slow, my friend and I were craving Indian food. So we went. Yes, the service was slow again and this time what I had ordered wasn't so great. I ordered the minced lamb, they turned it into kabobs. They weren't very tasty. I smothered it with their yogurt sauce, it helped. My friend ordered rice, veggies and beans in crepe. It's her favorite there. If your going, eat an apple before if your hungry. A lot of Indian restaurants offer a lunch buffets for lunch and dinner. This place doesn't offer one for dinner. I bet if they did, it would be popular.

I love the lunch buffet here. There are about 10 or so Indian restaurants in the Johnson County/South KC area, of which I have been to 8 of them. Ruchi's is my favorite! Ruchi's has the largest buffet and offers the most daily choices. No other Indian restaurant in the area presents so many dishes for their buffet. There are several choices that are always present: chicken curry, goat curry, fried catfish curry, tandoori chicken, channa dal, sambar, idli, naan (plain and flavored), dosas, chicken biryani, pakoras, and a wide selection of chutneys, pickles, & yogurt rice. Other selections that rotate in and out of the buffet on different days are Chicken 65, Chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable Korma, Butter Chicken, Aloo Gobi, Baby Corn Manchuria, Mushroom Curry, Gobi Manchuria, Okra Curry, Aloo Fry, vegetable biryani, various Dals, Paneer Korma, Eggplant Curry, and Egg Masala. Included with the buffet (unlike most other local Indian buffets) are Masala Chai and Mango Lassi (I really like the Lassi at Ruchi's, very thick and rich). Dessert options are Mango Cake and Mango Ice Cream, and sometimes Kheer and/or Bombay Halvah. Basmati Rice is a staple, and sometimes they add Tamarind Rice, Tomato Rice, Lemon Rice, Coconut Rice or other variants. I eat there often and there is always something available to my liking. I find the food fresh and delicious. The spice level ranges by dish but there is always something for every taste, from mild to medium to very spicy. The buffet is from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The restaurant tends to get full by 12:00-12:30 PM. On the weekend, it is common to see many families eating here and to see a private party in the back room. I have always found the waiters to be pleasant, polite, and friendly. One or more of the owners are always on hand and I always see them greeting customers. Weekday buffet is about $12.00 and the weekend buffet is about $13.00 (weekends usually have a few more dishes available). Considering all of the choices, and the fact that Chai and Lassi are included, I find this to be a very fair price. Most other Indian lunch buffets charge $10-$11 and do not have nearly as many choices, nor do they include the chai or lassi. Ruchi's is a great choice for lunch. I often go with several co-workers during the week and we always enjoy the food. If you have never tried Indian food, this is a great place to start. Whether you are by yourself or with a group of friends, Ruchi's will always find a way to accommodate you and your party.

I have dined at Ruchis for lunch (buffet) and dinner. Interestingly enough, the buffet experience far exceeded my dinner experience. If you go for the weekday buffet, the place will be packed, but the food was delicious. Mango Lassi is included on the lunch buffet as well as several of your favorite Indian dishes. In my experience, the buffet is usually is not as good as ordering off the menu, so I was excited to return to do just that. I was sorely disappointed. First, I noticed that the restaurant was virtually empty. There were maybe 3 other tables dining. I ordered the chicken korma thalis. It was decent, but not amazing. The garlic naan was great, so that was a high spot. After my experiences, I must deduct that perhaps Ruchi focuses mainly on their lunch crowds and buffet. I would definitely go back for that.

Good tasty food! Love the Pakoras, Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken 65 are the bomb! Try going here for dinner. Service and food are both wayyy better. Lunch buffett is good too. but sometimes seems too crowded or food too bland. But dinner food is awesome!! Great value for price too!

Ruchi had been recommended to me several times by my Indian food loving brother-in-law and our mutual friend who grew up in Mumbai. I had to check it out myself. Went there last night and I have to agree with the good things I'd heard about it. The staff was attentive and friendly. The restaurant was clean and warm. The atmosphere was just right for a quiet, romantic dinner for two. As for food, the Masala Dosa was just like the ones I had when I was in India, very delicious! We each had a thali, one Aloo Gobi which was very good and one Goat curry dish, also very delicious (yes, it's all bone in but worth it). The biryani rice that was served was excellent, very light and soft. The lentil soup/daal was not the texture I expected but the taste was spot on...again exactly what I'd had when in India. The naan was soft & crunchy at the same time and MUCH less greasy than at other Indian restaurants in town. All of the accompanying dips and sauces were flavored very well. Masala Dosa was ~$9, our Thalis were each ~$15 or so. And we have LOTS of leftovers. They also had cheap beers and wines available which I couldn't complain about. We will definitely be going again!

I am so mixed on this place that I can't decide from day-to-day if I am going to go here to get my Indian or somewhere else. First, lets start out with the most important aspect - the taste. It's fine...not unbelievable, but no better or worse than most other Indian places in the area. I have never been to the buffet, so I cannot comment on that - I have only ever done dinner as takeout. None of their dishes are unusual or really inspired, so that is somewhat disappointing. The service, however, leaves a lot to be desired. I usually end up interacting with who I believe is either the owner or head manager, and he is never really friendly. Not rude, but never welcoming. The other employees, when I have interacted with them, are definitely better. And again, I have never actually had a meal here, only takeout, but my experience seeing them as I wait is that they appear to be good and friendly. However, what usually helps me decide is how hungry I am or my time situation...a few times, after ordering over the phone and being told "25-30 minutes", I show up and have to wait another 15-20 minutes on top of that. For average Indian food, that's not a huge selling point. So, in conclusion - meh, it's OK.

Just got done eating another pathetic Indian meal :( Ever since Paradise India closed, my girlfriend and I have been searching high and low for decent Indian food. Guess we'll just have to keep looking. The malai kofta was gross, the chicken korma was bland & boring, the nan was burned, and the vegetable pakora were just a pile of crumbs. Hey Jay A, I know enough about Indian food to not give them 5 stars. I'm being generous with my 2 stars.

Reasonably priced restaurant with good food and MANGO LASSI! My team at work would come here every so often to eat. The staff is nice and the food is tasty and not too oily.

Lunch buffet at $9.99 is an excellent deal and a good introduction to Indian food if you've never tried it. The butter chicken is by far my favorite and, although probably not the most authentic, is sinfully buttery and rich. The naan is delicious as well. The mango lassi (basically a mango smoothie) is included along with chai tea in the price of the buffet, so definitely worth a try.

RUCHI!!! * Fist Shaking * Why do I continue to come to you? Every time I come your staff meets my excitement with quiet indifference. No one really seems to care that my wife and I have chosen your restaurant out of hundreds in the area. Never is your staff rude or mean; they always manage to produce just enough of a cordial attitude to keep that from happening; but friendly, glad, or inviting they are not. I'm afraid the fault is our own. We continue to return to your den of indifference because of the food. There is no way around it. I find myself wishing for a putrid vindaloo, or perhaps a greasy tikka masala so that I can simply write your restaurant off altogether with no reason to return. But I can't. Your food is consistently delicious. Meat is always tender; vegetables fresh. When I ask for a spice level of hot, rather than tone down your typical level of heat on account of my pale skin, you boldly give me a bowl of fire. Well done! Your dinner prices may be higher than those of your competition ($15-$17), but you serve it Thali style, which always insures that I will be served something I haven't tried before amongst the various sides and soups that accompany the meal. * Golf Clap * .....And your lunch buffet? Even a gloomy Monday can be brightened by your wide array of neon yellow and orange curries. Free chai and piles of naan? Ten dollars? I hate that I love you. Even though your service indicates that the deliciousness of your food is likely an accident. You've got me. Maybe its my fault, maybe I love being treated badly. But more likely: great food will always trump poor service. Restaurants of Kansas City..... take note.

Food is great, esp the chicken 69 or 65 or something...the spicy fried fish thingies, dosai, daal, and the veggie dishes were great too( and im a big meat eater!) The korma sauce was also delicious. But only three stars because its rly pricey for a lunch buffet ...I think 10-12$, depending on whether or not its a weekday. And also their naans were cold but would not bring out fresh ones until the stales ones were done...The lassi is also yummy.

Great value for a lunch buffet, if you haven't enjoyed this type of food and want to try different items this is the place. Staff is a little different but always fun, watch out for the really spicy food, small samples first, then go back for more.

This is a great example of how taste is so subjective. Before eating at Ruchi, I just thought Indian food was "eh, okay..." I'd had Korma Sutra a couple of times, and the buffet at India Palace a few times with friends. But this Christmas, I dined at Ruchi - and they blew me away! True, the service was kind of slow. It was fairly busy when I arrived, and swelled into a flurry of customers waiting by the door by the time I was leaving. The Pakora (mixed vegetables, fried) were nice - but I don't think I'll get it again. I mean... It's fried vegetables. I ordered the Chicken Tikki Masala, which is what one of the managers recommended. Lots of people seemed to be ordering a dish that came out sizzling, like Fajitas. But it obviously wasn't Fajitas.... It smelled and looked wonderful, so I hope to order that next time. But it will not be easy to stray from what I did have - because this stuff was sublime! First they bring you a platter of rice in the middle and four smaller bowls around the sides with various soups, sauces and a dessert! Then the entree comes out separately. The Tikki Masala was so delightful. I highly recommend it if you've never had anything else. It's not too spicy, but plenty of savory and interesting flavors come together so beautifully with the basmati rice. The naan (grilled flat bread) was the best I've tasted. It was simple, unlike the wild varieties they serve at Korma... I don't know what the dessert was. It was a dark orange paste of some sort. It had some raisins in it, and wasn't too sweet. Very tasty! The portions are too much for even me to finish. Most everyone was taking home boxes to go. So I just went into the kitchen to nibble on my leftovers from earlier. I expected to find dried rice and a gelatinous goo that used to be sauce. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that everything was still moist and delicious. The sauce was still rich and velvety. Honestly, I ended up eating all of it without heating it up! How many leftovers can you say tasted almost as good cold as they were when served?? I'll definitely be going back. I want to try the buffet. Many of the reviewers here have said that it's wonderful. I hope they'll have the butter chicken when I go. Maybe it's a weekend thing?? Try it. Enjoy!!

Excellent Indian restaurant. Whatever you order, make sure to order a side of pouri (you get 3). The vegan samosas were good but I wish they made beef or lamb samosas. All condiments were excellent! Food arrived quickly, hot, and tasty. They do not over feed you here, nor do they give you small portions. Plenty of food for under $40 and dinner for two...with left overs and desert. (Although I did not care for the gulab jamun.) Service was friendly, prompt and courteous.

I've been searching for the best Indian restaurant in the Kansas City area for 8 years. Ruchi holds the trophy for the best (a tall one with a gold piece of naan). The restaurant in Waldo, not mentioned here, is par. Westport's Korma Sutra leaves much to be desired. You can tell a good restaurant by their chutney. Ruchi makes their own, and they are brilliant. The flavors are complex, and dance in your mouth. If it were not so far away, I'd be there often.

I had been going to Indian Palace for my Indian food cravings when someone suggested I give Ruchi a try. I wasn't at all impressed by the host point at the table he wanted us to sit at. I wasn't impressed that you don't get fresh bread brought out to your table. What i was impressed with however was the wide selection of not-americaned down foods on their impressive buffett. I was shocked to learn that real Indian Food had spices and flavors and wasn't all bland orange meats in bland brown sauces. Definitely in my top 3 Indian Buffets in town and definitely worth a trip down to the JoCo to have a lunch adventure. Don't mind the lack of table service during lunch, they will bring you a pitcher of water so you don't have to worry about refills. The last couple of times I've gone they had a delicious fish dish on the buffett that really was good. A variety of meat and meat-less dishes. My complaints aside from no frills service is all the bread sits on the buffett and can get pretty hard and nasty after a while. I never see anyone in the kitchen bringing bread out, but I'm sure that if you wait long enough they will and you can snag some freshness. Other than that, it's good stuff may-nard.

Ruchi didn't disaapoint. Its a good buffet. At $10, its a nice restaurant with very solid food. I gotta say the Mango Lassi was just awesome, never seen that at a buffet before and I love it. There's also hot Chai tea included with the buffet too. There are two types of naan and some roti. The biryani, curried, and jasmine rice were good. The variety was pretty good with a good selection of meat containing and veggie options. I thought the goat dish was pretty good and the tandoori chicken was awesome. The samosas were tasty as well. The shocker was the incredible fried catfish. Very delightful. Everything was excellent. The service was attentive and they also leave a pitcher of water at the table which is a wise choice.

I went to Ruchi's for dinner with my husband. We both have eaten at our fair share of Indian restaurants and feel that Ruchi is a solid pick. Parking is fairly straightforward and we were both seated quickly. The service that night was somewhat on the slower side, but the restaurant was busy. I liked the fact that they left a pitcher of water on the table. Silverware was clean. We ordered samosas, chicken tikka masala, utthappam, and mango lassi. They offered 3 levels of spiciness; mild was spot on for us. The utthappam was different from what we've had in the past (pan fried vs steamed). It was decent but nothing to write home about. My husband enjoyed the tikka masala. The chicken breast was a little on the dry side but the seasoning sauce was good. The mango lassi was refreshing but less thick and sweet than we've had in the past. Overall, Ruchi's is a decent Indian restaurant which we'll be returning to.

First, to qualify myself, I am Indian and have been to all sorts of Indian restaurants across the U.S. and in India (Chicago, NY, DC, Cali, Dallas). I recently hosted a dinner here and have dined here in the past. Food: Below average. Not terrible, it was edible for sure...but that is certainly not all (I hope) that most restaurants are aiming for! Most items were devoid of flavor. I will say that the samosas are good, but that's where it ends. Service: Unfortunate. Appetizers almost an hour late. While the servers seemed nice, they also seemed like they had no idea how to serve at a nice restaurant. This may as well have been fast food. Tables were full of dirty dishes through dinner, through dessert, and until we went out and flagged down someone to deal with it. And when clearing the plates, they just wheeled in a bin and started loudly throwing in dishes, rather than appropriately picking them up as they could hold them and take them back. When we needed plates and forks for cake we again had to go flag someone down again because no one ever actually checked to see how we were doing. The server, when offering drinks and tea, just walked into the middle of the dining room and just announced it loudly, rather than going to each person or at least each table and properly asking. It was really as if no one here actually knew how to wait on tables! I've never had such "service," anywhere. It was easily the worst part of the evening. Location: Conveniently off 435 Highway, but not anywhere near Urban KC. Not worth driving out to the suburbs for. Cost: Ran about the average at other restaurants, but for the food and service here, should have been half what it was. Also was not what was previously agreed upon. I will not be returning. Have a craving for Indian food? Try the better food and immensely better service at Korma Sutra in Westport.

10 years ago Ruchi was great. Food, Service, everything. Not the best in KC, but it was very good. Today, the food is way downhill, almost as poor as the service. The food on the buffet is mediocre, the food off the menu has been really bad. The Butter Chicken is a pool of grease, it doesn't taste like real butter (or fresh chicken for that matter). On the buffet, most of the items are watered-down to the point where they lack any real flavor. The Chai tastes like it came out of a box. I used to enjoy Ruchi for a change from my favorite spot, now I only go there if a group I am meeting has already decided, and then it is just to force my way through the meal so I can hang out with them. Give Ruchi a pass, not sure if they will ever get back to the quality they used to have.

Delicious Indian food . My husband and I met a friend and we tried the Eggplant Curry, Chicken Ticka Masala and Chicken Vindaloo, all served Thali style. Staff are accommodating to families with children and our fussy one-year old scored a balloon and plenty of attention. I agree, they weren't the most accommodating to adults, but the food was delicious and they catered to our little guy. A little pricey, but plenty of leftovers for a second night. Will be trying the lunch buffet soon.

Oh my god. Indescribably good. Always leave there happier than I came in. Couple of ground rules: 1. Order the mango lassi 2. Get the thalli style with your meal. Keep your mind open, try everything, and enjoy. Super friendly staff, great atmosphere/interior, always a great time. One of my absolute favorite places in the area.

The food s good but worst ever service there could ever be. I'm not just talking about restaurants I mean worst ever. We came in at 7 40 and placed our order at 7 50. Our order never came out. It was just two of us who ordered for 2 biriyanis. And that didn't come out for more than an hour. So we couldn't wait so we just asked them to change it to a togo order and left. It was ridiculous. I would never come back and please don't come here! I would love to give 0 stars but unfortunately thats not an option.

In December of 2014 I ate here for the lunch buffet. Several hours later I was as KU Medical Center with food poisoning, no control over my bodily functions, and severe dehydration. I had to be wheeled into the ER because I could hardly stand on my own. All the while my body was trying to rid itself of this and because of the mess I was leaving everywhere I just kept apologizing to nurses and doctors. I couldn't think straight, I couldn't get comfortable. It wasn't until later that I shared that'd I'd silently accepted the fact that I was probably going to die. Sounds dramatic, I know...but I'd NEVER been this sick. I've had all kinds of sports injuries, surgeries and procedures. This was the most scared for my life I'd ever been. I called and spoke with management and was told I was allergic to the spices. Indian food was one of my favorite things to eat, so I wasn't allergic to the spices. His only concern was if I'd told anyone else about this or reported this to anyone. No, but after cutting me off in the conversation several times making sure I'd not called anyone else...I hung up. I immediately reported them to KS and a health inspection 24 hours later failed them for multiple priority violations, and failed them again weeks later at the follow up. They and their insurance company have told me I cannot prove it, but would like to offer me a $25 gift card. I explained I didn't think I would be returning and was told I should take the gift card and give it to someone else. What? I was told by KU nurses and 2 doctors to NEVER ever eat there again and they were not surprised at what happened with where I'd eaten. In fact, when I told them where I'd been, "ah-ha, yup," was the shared response. Do yourself a favor and read the inspection reports online. A $11 buffet could cost you a few thousand in medical bills, car cleaning, house cleaning, days of recovery, and complete misery.

If you enjoy a buffet for lunch it is fine. If you want to order off the menu beware. Service is slim to none. I had to go back to front desk to ask for menu and had to grab a bus boy to order off menu. The food was excellent once it arrived but I was charged full dinner price with none of the sides that were suppose to go along with it. Very disappointed

The food is delicious!! The staff incredibly friendly. I have been to 2 other Indian restaurants in the past month and I prefer this one to the others. The Nan was a little hard for my taste but the excellency of the dishes by far made up for it. Highly recommend.

I've been to Ruchi's for dinner and I liked it, although I wasn't blown away- but after coming here for their lunch buffet I'm not eager to come back at all. It's very crowded, and there's not a lot of room to move around, either between tables or at the buffet. You just kind of have to stand around waiting for your chance to jump in line, making it awkward for people around you and risking getting hit with plates of food. The buffet is large, but everything I tried on it is either so mild that it's bland, or super spicy. My dining companions couldn't tolerate lot of items at all, due to the spice. I was excited to try the Coconut Naan, but it was just regular naan sprinkled with coconut, not even baked in- so the coconut just flaked off on my clothes and left no coconut taste. Even the plain naan wasn't good- it was hard and overcooked. I love okra, but the okra dish left a lot to be desired- it was just a boring scoop of green & brown mush. The vegetable biryani was the best of the things I tried, although it was very spicy, and I found stems (of what, though, I don't know) and hard-as-rock raisins (I think they were raisins, but who knows?!) mixed into it. There were some little Pakoras available that were good, but they were all perfectly the same size that I suspect they were cooked from frozen, not made fresh. There were also zero samosas available. What kind of Indian buffet doesn't serve samosas?! Weird. Apparently, this place is famous for their Butter Chicken. It was ok I guess, but nothing remarkable- the chicken was a touch dry and the rice they suggested you serve it over was overcooked with several burned spots. The restaurant serves Mango Lassi on the buffet too, and it's quite delicious, as is the mango cake (although they ran out of it while we were there,) and their mango ice cream- although the ice cream machine is obviously quite old- it's loud, and the handle needs replacing. There's a big sign saying to only use these tiny little styrofoam Dixie cup bathroom cups to drink the Lassi from. I'm guessing it's because they just throw them away, because it'd be harder to clean the thick smoothie-like texture of Lassi out of their glasses, but that's soooo wasteful. Plus you get like 3 sips from one of those cups. I should've just used a glass and then washed it out in the bathroom for them! There were a lot of people working there, but none of them checked on us during our meal, and only once was our table cleared of used plates. When we got there, the sign said 'wait to be seated,' but when a worker spotted us, he just waved towards a booth for us to sit at, and while the tabletop was clean, the floor underneath was disgusting- completely littered with old food. Apparently, Ruchi's doesn't own a vacuum. Basically- this place is gross. Just go to Touch of Asia instead- better selection of better food in a cleaner environment with a nicer staff.

I have been to all the Indian buffets in the Joco area and nothing beats this place. The staff is always friendly unlike another Indian buffet that I used to frequent. The food is always hot and fresh. The consistency of the quality of the food is quite remarkable. They have the best mango lassie hands down! I have been eating here for over a decade and will continue to eat here as long as I'm still in Kansas. Highly recommended!

I wish there was an option of zero star or a minus rating. We have been to this place many times; and all the time we have noticed that the owner does a lot on discrimination among the Asian and the American people. He goes to their table many times and asks if everything is okay but he never comes to any of the Indian people table. Earlier, we thought that it might be our misunderstanding or something. But no, it's nothing like that he does that all the time. And not only that, along with discriminating people he also doesn't talk properly with the Indian customer and is very rude and arrogant. Secondly, there food is also not great. Very oily food and is overpriced as well. I wish the owner learn some etiquette and be same with everybody.

This was our traditional new years day Indian lunch. We hadn't tried this place before. Unfortunately, I was not pleased. The chai tea was very bland, the naan was burned. The chicken was dried out except for the fried wings which were very good even though I wasn't aware that was an Indian item. It took a long time to stand in line to pay even though the line was short. The place was very busy and I could hear others (even those of the same ethnicity of the restaurant) complaining amongst themselves about the buffet. It was new years and maybe the staff was hungover so I'm willing to give them another try since many of the reviews are good. The ice cream machine ran out. Boo. Also there wasn't rice pudding available.

I searched for a long time to find my favorite source of Indian food. They make from scratch, which I think is where the authenticity comes from. They are also able to cater to various spice preferences within the family. I start looking forward to our next trip the moment we leave. 5 stars.

We tried Ruchi for the first time and probably the last time. Both my husband and I ended up with a stomach upset. The food was stale we ordered malai kofta and alloo palak and it appeared as if the food was just microwaved and served to us. I will not recommend this place to anyone

They have great vegan/vegetarian options but unfortunately/fortunately vary their buffet a lot and don't label ingredients. But the staff are helpful and the food tastes really good. Always leave stuffed. And my family who were trying out Indian cuisine for the first time loved it too.

Certainly number of items have been increased when compared to last my last visit at this place by giving space to more items to taste and raitha is always to its mark. It was busy on Saturday afternoon and items were ending up very soon but refill was taking a plenty of time giving a chance of frustration. Apart from it, items were good, tasty and newly added sweet jelebi was added attraction for sweet lovers...keep going...

Getting a completely buffet in Overland Park is very difficult. So, when I heard about Ruchi, I was very keen to go and try it out. I was not disappointed. They have such a very nice spread which are not limited to only Indian cuisine. Couscous salad, polenta salad, Mexican spicy potatoes, pasta in arrabbiata sauce and baked mushrooms are some of the few of the many unique dishes that I have had here. The Indian dishes are also not left behind. With rasam, sambar, kootu, baingan bharta and green peas pulao one will be left choosing what to eat next. Dosas and other side items also leave you making multiple trips. The desserts also are scrumptious. With fruit salad for the health conscious and cake, gulab jamun, pedha, barfi and tarts for the rest, it is the perfect dessert for a wonderful meal. And the best part is the price. Unlike any other buffet place that I have ever seen, Ruchi has its price the same across all week. And the price is extremely nominal for the wonderful spread, lovely ambience and the helpful staff. The staff there are polite and efficient. They actually remember you if you go there more than once and they are the one who make your visit a better one. The parking facility is good and although it is close to the main road, there is almost no traffic noise which is great. You have a perfect manager for Ruchi, Roger! who places his customers at high priority. He sponsors free dinner deserts to me all the time I visit which is awesome! Take a chance, come here and really enjoy yourself. I have visited Ruchi over 10 times now and I am yet to be disappointed or bored!

I opted for this place after reading the reviews on Yelp. They say first impressions are the lasting ones.I would rate this place just about average.Service was not good.Servers have no idea what is going on in the kitchen.Misread our orders. Starters and soups were brought in along with the entrée,actually the entrée were in first.By the time our main dishes came to an end, soups appeared.(Ordered indo-chinese,bland veg fried rice, paneer chili with south indian twist of kadi patta, and soups come in handi!) It was my first time here, food is average for Indian palate standards. Service is bad not in the sense that the staff is rude or inattentive but that they bring out food in a very unorganized way. I ordered an entree with the extras that come with it for thali, they brought the thali first and then 5-10 minutes later brought my husband's order while I still waited for my entree to arrive. So here I was waiting with the pilaf getting cold till finally the entree arrived. Indians beware when you ask them to make anything spicy for you, they will serve you bland food, no extra chilli will be put in your food to accommodate your tastebuds. Try it nonetheless if you want some clean environment and food. Its better than one other place I have eaten in the Kansas city area.

So delish. This was my first time here (ordered carry-out) and without a doubt I will be back. We ordered: Chicken 65, Chicken Vindaloo, Chicken Masala and a side of Paneer Nan. I love spicy and in my opinion the Chicken 65 was the spiciest. The mildest, but still SO, SO good was the Chicken Masala. I don't think I would order the Paneer Nan again (I would go for a different nan) - that was my least favorite item, but it was still pretty good. I usually get Indian from Korma Sutra, but was so impressed with this place it will probably become my go to Indian food place. Had carry-out from here again last night and we got the chicken tikki masala. It was really good. Next time I will bump it up from medium spice level. Tried the garlic Nan and the regular Nan. I will be ordering the regular Nan from here on out. Dishes tried ranked: 1- Chicken 65 2- Chicken Masala 3- Chicken Tikki Masala 4- Chicken Vindaloo

The food is very, very tasty. My friend and I got the ruchi special biryani, chicken tikka masala, and chicken curry. We also got garlic naan. Everything tasted fabulous. I was really intrigued by the chicken curry. The dish was very simple, in my opinion. It did not have a lot going on, did not seem to have cream in it (big plus in my book), and had really, really good flavor. The chicken was tender. I would've liked the chicken in the chicken tikka masala to have been slightly more tender, but it was not overcooked by any means. The chicken tikka masala sauce was BOMB. Yumm, delicious. The service was outstanding. I forgot our waiter's name, he was really attentive and very entertaining. Owner also came to speak with us toward the end to see how we found everything, which I thought was really nice. The ambiance is really nice as well. You could definitely bring a date here. Overall, this place has great food and great service. I would definitely recommend this place to others, and cannot wait to go back and try their buffet and chai.

I really have to wonder if some of the nasty reviews of this restaurant might have been written by the owners or employees of other Indian restaurants in the area. I have been going to Ruchi regularly -- at least once a week, sometimes two or three visits in a week -- for something like eight years now. Usually, I go for the buffet ... but maybe 5% of the time I go in the evening, and order off the menu. I have never had an experience that I would put lower than four stars. The owners and management have always been friendly and helpful. The kitchen staff and servers have always made sure that the items I order are pleasing to the eye as well as to the tongue. And the buffet has always been fresh, delicious, healthy, authentic, and satisfying. I have been to several other places around Kansas City for Indian cuisine. It bugs me to walk into a busy Indian restaurant, and find that the only Indian people there are the ones serving the meal. Ruchi seems to be the one that actual Indian people prefer. It also bugs me when practically every dish is loaded with heavy cream, as some other restaurants seem to do, even though recipes don't usually call for it. Ruchi is my go-to Indian restaurant, even though I have to drive almost seven miles to get there. It's worth it. I'd recommend it to anybody.

Used to be the best Indian food. Good for vegetarians too.. Try a spoonful of green chutney with papad if you want something real spicy. Update 1: It was the best earlier. Now paradise is the best Update 2: Ruchi tried to match Paradise's briyani and turns out they have done a good job. Amazing Briyani

I have both ordered takeout and dined in. I order Malai Kofta and Saag Aloo (or equivalent). The naan is great, and the main dishes are sufficiently spicy, and they definitely compare to my favorite Indian restaurant in my SoCal home town. The decor is pretty and tidy, and the service is excellent.

So far we have only dined at Ruchi's lunch buffet, and while it is overall pretty good, I'm still left feeling torn about my rating. Both times that we have stopped in the place has been packed, but we've luckily been able to get a seat quickly. Service isn't overly friendly, but it is effective - they drop off silverware, glasses and a pitcher of water, and then basically just pick up dirty plates, which is fine and pretty much what I expect from a buffet. I like that the buffet offers a mix of Northern and Southern Indian dishes, which is a nice change and gives me an opportunity to try some things that I normally wouldn't eat, and if the Chicken 65 is on offer, I definitely would suggest giving that a try. I have also found that some of the buffet options are spicier than you would find at other local Indian buffets, and since I am a fan of spicy food, the extra heat makes me a happy eater! All of the buffet items are clearly labeled, and the only time there's ever a "snafu" is when people try to go both ways up and down the side of the buffet closest to the wall, as there's not a lot of spare room on that side. What I don't care for at Ruchi is how many of the dishes have bones in them, including the fish dishes. Now, I can easily avoid the goat, lamb, or chicken that is obviously bony (or make my husband get a portion and then give me a bite or two once he gets rid of the nasty bones for me), but there is nothing worse than taking a bite of an otherwise very nice catfish dish and then crunching down on a bone which you then have to try to extract from your mouth full of food. Especially for those of us who don't like to eat meat on the bone anyway. Ugh. That's honestly enough to turn me off Ruchi...until I think of that cursed delicious Chicken 65. So, there's my dilemma. Will we be back? Most likely yes, as my husband is a really big fan, and I do very much like what I can/choose to eat. But next time I will hopefully learn my lesson and avoid the fish dishes, no matter how interesting or tasty they look!

I hate that I have to give this place only three stars...the food is amazing but the service is awful. It's not just awful but at times very rude. Anytime I've asked the waiter for anything (like a drink refill) I've been treated like it's a burden. I actually feel like they intentionally stay away from the tables so no one will ask them for anything. Great good, terrible service!

This is the worst restaurant imaginable, Indian or otherwise. The owner/manager has no idea of courtesy and propriety in restaurant management, in India or the USA. Item, I went there with my wife for dinner one night. We waited for our turn to be seated. Then we were taken to a table. As we approached the table with the guidance of a member of the management team, another manager came along to unceremoniously bump us off to seat a party of FOUR at that table. We were asked to go back. Talk about MERCENARY and the hospitality industry! These people are a disgrace to the Indian restaurant scene.

Things have gotten better with my absents. Still seem to have Indian Egg Roles and a lot of breads filling the trays though, but the food is fresher and the managment is much nicer. I'm back.

Never order take out from Rucchi at Noon on Sunday! Still waiting and it has been 1 hour & 30 minutes. Was told it would take 40 minutes. Not worth it!

Delicious. Love the portions and I love the ambiance. The buffet is pretty good, too. I recommend this place to anyone.

Good for lunch buffet. During busy afternoons - fridays typically, its tough for them to keep up with keeping the trays full. but the food is good, reliable, and consistent.

Great value for a lunch buffet, if you haven't enjoyed this type of food and want to try different items this is the place. Staff is a little different but always fun, watch out for the really spicy food, small samples first, then go back for more.

Not even tasty. Worst tikka masala on the planet. The owner should be ashamed to serve old tikka masala chicken that is bland and tastes like milk and porridge. Shame !! Learn how to cook and stop embarrassing indian food. Shame on u !!!!

Restaurants of Kansas City..... take note.

India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind.
